Post Office Lane Toilet Refurbishment

At the October 2018 Newport & Carisbrooke Parish Council Meeting, approval was given to seek planning permission for an upgraded toilet facility in Post Office Lane, off the High Street.

Since NCPC took over the provision of the Post Office Lane facilities in Newport they have been working with Christopher Scott, Chartered Surveyors and Development, to develop a scheme for a new unisex and accessible toilets in Post Office Lane.  The current block will be demolished and three Danfo toilet modules will be installed.

These user friendly units will be further enhanced by attractive landscaping of the surrounding public space.  Using the expertise of AJ Wells and inspiration from artwork by local schools, is it hoped to make the whole area much more acceptable and attractive.

The new toilets will cost approximately half the price to clean and maintain which should mean a saving of approximately £8,000 a year.  In addition, given the anticipated footfall of 625 per week, a charge of 20p for the use of the toilets would yield an income of approximately £6500 per annum.

We intend to borrow £160,000 over a ten year period to fund the toilet re-building which will largely be financed from savings on maintenance and cleaning and income from users.

The cost of the loan will be the equivalent of £2.20 per Council Tax-payer per year over the ten year life of the loan.

We do not intend to increase the Council Tax in order to service the loan given anticipated income and savings.
