Newport Festival of Christmas 2017

The event on 2nd December was an excellent example of partnership working between a number of organisations including Newport & Carisbrooke Parish Council, Newport Business Association, Newport Carnival Committee and ARC Consultancy.

The day started in the Minster with craft stalls and demonstrations plus Santa and children’s games. The Scottish Fiddlers entertained with Scottish songs and carols and the balloon modelling was a popular attraction for young and old.

Outside, Medina Marching Band put on a display followed by the Melodic Choir and an old fashioned barrel organ kept the music lively during the day. The Snostoppin’ Huskies dropped in with the Ice Queen and later in the afternoon Newport CofE Primary school sang a number of carols (although they were interrupted by snow!) and the final singing group was St John’s Church Choir and band.

ARC Consultancy were on hand all day with an interactive stall gathering information towards the ‘Shaping Newport’ project. For the peckish, the food street market went on until early evening serving coffee, warming mulled wine and dumplings.

The highlight of the event was the Christmas lights switch on. Isle of Wight Radio attended along with some characters from Blackgang Chine and hundreds watched as the magnificent tree was lit up. Children from Newport primary schools had decorated baubles and these had been hung on the tree as part of the day.

Finally the Newport Winter Carnival travelled around the town to finish off the first magnificent Newport Festival of Christmas.

Christmas Fair 2015

The 2015 Christmas Fair organised by Newport & Carisbrooke Parish Council was a huge success. Santa Claus was visited by over 80 children throughout the day, who each received a present.

Entertainment at the fair was provided by local magician Huxley, who thrilled children and adults with his tricks and illusions. Wight Brass performed between 2-3pm and got everyone in the Christmas mood, playing a festive repertoire.

We would like to thank Newport Minster for allowing us to hold the fair inside the Minster and also the craft stallholders who traded on the day.

Below is a selection of photos from the Christmas Fair.

Dazzle and Fizz entertained the children while the adults browsed over 20 craft and local produce stalls.

The Snostopin Siberian Huskies were happy to have a cuddle with everyone who passed their way and Wight Brass put on a splendid performance of carols to round off the day.
