Spooks and Sparks

Spooks & Sparks 2017

2017 saw a spectacular Spooks & Sparks event on 4th November, surely the best so far?!  The site was packed with visitors enjoying the brilliant range of family entertainment laid on, tucking into the variety of food and drink on offer and of course lots of “oohing and aahhing” at the dazzling finale.

A very big Thank You to the following who helped make it such a special evening:

Twisted Inflation with their balloon-modelling, Huxley and his mesmerising magic, SJ Leisure with their trampolines and shooting range, creative face painting with Nicky and Tracy, enthusiastic Disney-based sing-alongs with Chartini, the Enchanted Isle characters mingling with the crowd (producing many awe-inspired little faces!), Newport Carnival Committee’s activities, a great performance by Island band Switch, music and lively chat from Isle of Wight Radio and, for the grand finale of fireworks, a fantastic display by Jubilee Fireworks!!

Anyone who was peckish or thirsty was spoilt for choice with caterers Out to Lunch, Whitby Fish, Lance’s Hot Dogs, Tansy’s Pantry with the lovely ‘Bella Bus’, the Events Co with their bangers & mash and sweet pancakes, Dr Beans coffee van and the Break Lever coffee tricycle.

There was much-appreciated support from the Parish Councillors helping to sell the tickets and ensure everyone was safe and happy on site.  The team spirit was very much in evidence and seeing the crowd’s enjoyment made all the hard work in the build-up and on the day worthwhile.

We’ve had some lovely feedback about the event and are already thinking ahead to 2018!  So when you put up your new calendars shortly be sure to save the date – provisionally booked for 3rd November (please check the website and Facebook page nearer the time for confirmation).  We look forward to seeing everyone next year.

Spooks & Sparks Night 2016

Wow, what an amazing night Spooks and Sparks 2016 was! We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone that came to the event this year and everyone who helped out on the night, we really appreciate your support, without you we couldn’t put on this event every year! Also, I think we speak for everyone when we say how incredible the fireworks were this year too! It may have been a very cold night but that didn’t ruin anyone’s evening, the magic show from Huxley was out of this world, the face painting by Tracy’s Faces was spooktacular and the fairy den by Chartini was magical! All the children were so excited to see Elsa from Frozen, Rapunzel, Iron Man and Batman at the event walking within the crowds! Overall, we feel that once again the event was a huge success and we cant wait to do it all again next year!

Below is a selection of photographs taken on the night as well as a drone video of the fireworks filmed by Flying Vision LTD.

Newport Parish Council’s Spooks & Sparks Night 2015

The inaugural Spooks & Sparks Night, hosted by Newport Parish Council and Isle of Wight Radio at Victoria Recreation Ground, was a resounding success and thoroughly enjoyed by everyone in attendance. During the event, which was a mixed Halloween/Firework Night theme, live music was played, magic was performed by the superb Huxley, culminating with a spectacular firework display. A wide selection of food vendors were also on site throughout the night, providing hot and cold refreshments. The Parish Council hopes to build on the success of this year to make future events equally successful.

Below is a selection of photographs from people in attendance on the night in fancy dress and some of the Newport Parish Council members, who were assisting on the night. Thank you to Cllr Terry Martin for acting as photographer on the night and the permission of those depicted to use the photos.

Newport Parish Council’s Firework Event 2014

Despite having to move this event to the 15th November because of poor weather conditions. Once again, it was a huge success! We would like to thank Isle of Wight Radio for their contribution on the night, as well as the amazing performance from Cornerstone! The Firework Display courtesy of Jubilee Fireworks was spectacular, we have uploaded the full video of the display below! Thank you to the Vectis Remnant Squad (Star Wars Costuming Group) for coming along and joining in the fun! We would also like to thank all the members of the public that turned up and made the night such a huge success!
