Market Days CIC has created an exciting outdoor music vibe alongside their now established Saturday Market in St Thomas Square with regular free performances from some of the Island's musical talent. A new group on social media has been set up under the names the_Island_buskers_collective on Instagram and The Island Busking Collective on Facebook and this collaborative approach has been successful in bringing some of the Island's best groups, instrumentalists and singer songwriters to perform outdoors at St Thomas Square, Newport.
Busking is an important rite of passage for some of the Island's young talent and many of the recent performers are students or graduates from the Platform One Music College who are just starting out on their careers. This is an exiting opportunity for them to gain recognition and with generous donations from shoppers and passers-by it also can be very encouraging.
Market Days CIC's aims in doing this is to kickstart cultural regeneration and bring performance, spectacle and entertainment to our county town to drive footfall and encourage visitors.
Saturday 21st is an art themed market and includes a workshop activity provided by Quay Arts, A live scene drawing by Polly Zanardi who will capture the hustle and bustle of the Maker's Market on a drawing that can then be purchased and market stalls and art exhibition.
Isle of Wight traders and Artists who will be exhibiting include Seacycle Studio, Elizabeth Hodgson, Deejavu Art and Design, U2canpaint, 3D Art, Nicole Newth and Nicky Dabbs.
