News from RON Real Opportunities Now (RON) is a programme run by Youth Connexions for young people aged 16 – 18 who are not in education, employment or training. RON enables young people to look at local training opportunities and to boost confidence and self esteem. We were approached by the Carnival Learning Centre to put together a RON programme with an exciting new street arts project. The project was also partnered with the Isle of Wight Festival and top international street art company, Periplum to run an activity entitled ‘Living Pop Video’, which would be giving the young people the opportunity to perform at this year’s Isle of Wight Festival. The week’s activities, organised by Periplum, were a series of challenging workshops exploring skills such as movement, character development, clown, improvisation and interaction to assist the group in creating their living pop videos. Inspired by iconic music videos such as Blur’s Parklife and the Verve’s Bittersweet Symphony, the group will create their own high-energy performance to songs by headline acts at the festival. The young people enjoyed the week thoroughly and are looking forward to performing at the festival. This article was submitted by Ben Johnson  |
