Parish Award 2015
Shortly before the Full Council meeting on Monday, 14 March 2016, Chair of Newport Parish Council Cllr Julie Jones-Evans was delighted to present Mr David Turner, leader of the Extreme Explorer Scout Troop, with this year’s Parish Community Award.
Nominated by one his scout troop members, Matthew Earley, Mr Turner was praised for his dedication to the scout troop, the time he gives every Wednesday evening when they meet and for providing his group of 14-18 year olds, sometimes numbering as many as 35, with opportunities they would not otherwise have available to them, including: camping, day trips and sporting activities. In addition to this, Mr Turner also provides advice and encouragement for his troop members to complete the bronze, silver and gold Duke of Edinburgh Awards.
In his nomination Matthew added that Mr Turner is a full-time training officer at St. Mary’s Hospital and selflessly gives his spare time to the scout troop.
The Parish Council were proud to recognise Mr Turner’s contribution to the community by declaring him the winner of this year’s Parish Community Award.
The Council look forward once again to judging next year’s competition.
