Newport Parish Council - Victoria Road Amenity Area Project
Newport Parish Council is delighted to have been awarded £1,110 by the Big Lottery Fund towards the enhancement of the Victoria Road Amenity Area. These funds along with £800 from the Parish Council and £250 from the Fairlee Victoria Road Residents Association will provide seating, a picnic table and a litter bin. The amenity area covers Victoria Road, St Pauls View Road and part of Fairlee Road. There are approximately 300 residents with a large age range from 0 to 90.The residents are keen to enhance the area to be accessible to all. A footpath and cycle track abuts the area, so this will be somewhere that visitors can also enjoy.
Providing these items this will enable young and old to enjoy an open space without having to cross the busy main road to Seaclose Park.
Mary Craven as lead parish councillor for the project said: "I am delighted that we have succeeded with the bid. The funding will allow this green space to be enhanced for the benefit of the local community"
The Chairman of the Residents Association, Peter Whiteman, also a parish councillor, gave his thanks to Newport Parish Council and to Cllr Craven for obtaining this grant. He said "This will make a vast improvement to our amenity area and will benefit all age groups; it will turn an open green space into an area for the community to enjoy".
